The factory cooling system for the Allison 1000 transmission incorporates an in-line thermal bypass valve that modulates fluid flow to the cooler. Until the cooler reaches operating temperature, this valve prevents transmission fluid from flowing through the trans cooler. The thermostat in this valve, on the other hand, is prone to failure, and if it does, the fluid will never reach the cooler, causing the transmission to overheat. To remedy this issue, Mishimoto has developed a full-flow thermal bypass valve improvement for your truck.
The Mishimoto CNC-machined aluminum thermal bypass valve not only looks nicer, but it also operates better than the factory unit. In cold climates, this Mishimoto thermal bypass valve set features a fully serviceable thermostat for quick warm-up. A thermostat bypass is also included in this kit, which can be added to offer consistent cooling in hot areas or for usage in harsh driving/towing situations. Internal channels in the Mishimoto thermal bypass valve have been purposefully machined to enhance flow over the stock valve for more effective cooling. Cooling fins have been machined inside the valve body provide further heat dissipation.
