7.3 Power Stroke – 210-250hp

These motors are heavy-duty behemoths designed to chug along for hundreds of thousands of miles without breaking a sweat. The closest comparison to the 7.3 is the 5.9-liter Cummins diesel, which provides similar benefits due to its focus on heavy-duty haulage and agricultural uses. The specifications and design of the 7.3L Power Stroke demonstrate its reliability.

The original horsepower of the 7.3 came in at 210hp and 425 torque. Through the years and modifications, the last year of the 7.3L in 2003 had 250hp for an automatic transmission and 275hp for a manual.

6.0 Power Stroke – 325hp

Once the 7.3L saw its final days, the 6.0 Power Stroke came to fruition. This change disappointed many diesel owners because of how well the 7.3 performed. The 6.0 only had a five-year reign before the 6.4L Power Stroke unceremoniously replaced it. The 6.0 never saw an increase in horsepower during its tenure, staying steady at 325hp from 2003-2007. If you were to ask any Power Stroke aficionado which was the best engine, it’s likely unanimous that the 6.0 would finish last, which is why those with that engine need the 6.0 Power Stroke turbo upgrade.

6.4 Power Stroke – 350hp

In sports, we often see an interim manager that takes the place of an underachieving skipper. The 6.4L was the interim manager for the Power Stroke engine, not the long-term solution. This diesel was the bridge from the less-than-stellar 6.0 into the pleasant 6.7. As its three-year span indicates, the 6.4L had its fair share of issues. The engine saw no improvements regarding horsepower or torque, beginning and ending with 350 hp and 650 torque.

6.7 Power Stroke – 390-475hp

In 2011, Ford debuted the Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel with a 6.7-liter displacement. Ford’s reverse-flow design was a significant advancement for the first generation of 6.7L Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel. The V-shaped engine’s intake is outside the V, while the exhaust is within for optimal efficiency.

The original 6.7 Power Stroke from 2011 had 390hp, but a decade later, that increased to 475 hp while adding nearly 300 lb-ft of torque, proving it’s the head of the class in terms of power and durability.
